USGS description & history
Two theories exist about the naming of this town: Named for the abundance of trees planted when the area was being settled. Another theory is that the town was named for President Grover Cleveland, who was in office when the community was founded in 1888 by the Great Northern Railway Company. (SD-T17/p67)
