USGS description & history
Originally named Saint Petersburg by Russian-German settlers. The town was platted on 3 October 1887 and one of the villagers suggested to the local railroad company that the town be named "Eureka", which translates to "I have found it" in Greek. (SD-T17/p62) Incorporated in 1892.
