USGS description & history
Located in north central Anson County 14.5 km (9 mi) north of Wadesboro.
Settled in 1844 and named in 1857 for Anson County, which was named for George Anson, Lord Anson (1697-1762), a British Admiral who guarded the coasts of the Carolinas from pirates. Incorporated in 1885. (NC-T11/p11)
