USGS description & history
The Hyde Park neighborhood centers on the park of the same name, and was originally a separate town known as Bremen. Bremen was incorporated July 16, 1850. It was also known as New Bremen. Originally named for Bremen, a province of Germany, also a city in that state on the Weser River. Hyde Park was named for William Hyde (1836-1898), editor and historian.
